Cylinder
A cylinder is a component that forms a combustion chamber
together with a cylinder head and a piston. The main component
for generating power, in which pistons perform reciprocating
motion while maintaining airtightness and the thermal energy
generated by fuel combustion is turned into mechanical
energy.
To convert applied thermal energy into mechanical energy as
efficiently as possible, the compressed air-fuel mixture and
combustion gas must be prevented from leaking out between the
cylinder and the piston, and, at the same time, friction and
wear caused by reciprocating motion must be reduced as much as
possible.
