Sulfur content
Sulfur content is one of the main components of particulate
matter (PM). It affects engine corrosion, wear, and oil
deterioration, and thus it should be kept to a minimum.
When sulfur compounds are combusted, they generate sulfurous
acid gas (SO2) and anhydrous sulfuric acid (SO3), and, at the
same time, sulfuric acid (H2SO4), which has a severe corrosive
effect together with large amounts of generated moisture.
This is why they are the main cause of corrosive action in
diesel engines.
