Injection timing
The injection timing is the moment at which fuel is injected in a diesel engine.
In the case of mechanically controlled diesel engines, the fuel
injection timing depends on the fuel cam position, in other
words, the crankshaft position. When the injection cam presses
the injection pump tappet roller, fuel is pressurized and
injected.
In the case of common rail systems, the fuel injection timing is
determined based on signals sent from the ECU. This means that
fuel injection is possible at any time, regardless of the
crankshaft position.
