Scale
Scale is one drawback of coolant.
Scale occurs in all locations subject to contact with water, and
scale deposits are particularly likely to form on hot cylinder
blocks, cylinder heads, and radiators subject to temperature
changes.
Scale is brown in color with a sticky, tar-like consistency and
very poor heat conduction. As scale deposits increase, they
interfere with water circulation and reduce cooling effects.
